Babies Can’t Wait (BCW)is Georgia’s early intervention program that offers a variety of coordinated services for infants and toddlers with special needs, from birth to three years-of-age and their families. The purpose of BCW is to:

  • Provide early identification and screening of children with developmental delays and chronic health conditions.
  • Improve the developmental potential of infants and toddlers birth to age three, with developmental or chronic health conditions.
  • Support family members and caregivers to enhance children's learning and development through everyday learning opportunities.

 

Purpose

The Psychologist provides assessment services to children with a suspected diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder (ASD), up through 3 years of age. This includes scheduling assessment appointments with children and their families and conducting a complete assessment using an industry approved standardized testing battery and completing an assessment report documenting test results and relevant diagnosis while adhering to programmatic and insurance policies and procedures.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Provides diagnostic assessment services for children with the suspected primary diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in the office or community environment;
  • Conducts standard assessments and parent interviews in accordance to Medicaid guidelines and as outlined by program policy manuals;
  • Receives referrals, from members of an interdisciplinary team of developmental providers, to perform diagnostic assessment services and individualized documentation/reports designed to improve child outcomes;
  • Collaborate with other professionals including Speech Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Special Instructors, Service Coordinators, Board Certified Behavioral Analysts, Registered Behavior Technicians and the BCW district office staff;
  • Attends and participates in assigned meetings and trainings.
  • Provides training (as needed) to clerical staff assisting with receipt of referrals in accordance to requirements set by the program policy manual including use of approved forms.
  • Demonstrate competency in assessments and reassessments, contributing to continued competence and professional growth.
  • Builds and maintains positive family/caregiver relationships throughout the primary service period by regularly including parent trainings in scheduled home visits, reviewing progress and collaborate on development of individualized service plans and behavior intervention plans.
  • Document all evaluations, assessments and sessions with family and other pertinent interactions with child and family in accordance with program policy.
  • Adheres to all Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) standards.
  • Other duties as may be assigned.

Knowledge/Skills Required

  • Must have expertise in the areas of developmental disabilities, autism, child development and training.
  • Must have experience administering psychological assessments (i.e., ADOS-2, ADI-R, GARS-2), conducting parent interviews and/or follow-up conferences, report writing, data analysis, and confirming diagnostic outcomes.
  • Must be passionate and committed to early intervention.
  • Must be professional, self-motivated, energetic and genuine.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
  • Computer literate and ability to learn new skills related to current technology.
  • Must have reliable transportation to travel and/or physical location to hold scheduled appointments.
  • Must enroll in fee-for-service Medicaid and at least two CMOs.
  • Should be paneled with a variety of private insurance companies.
  • Ability to take initiative, work independently, and demonstrate excellent time management skills.
  • Culturally aware.
  • Self-development.

 Education Requirements

  • Licensed Psychologist
  • Holds and maintains applicable state-level licensure for practicing in good standing

** This position is a contract position. Referrals are based on identified child-specific needs. Individual schedules are flexible and determined based on district need and provider availability. Reimbursement for services provided are based on current Medicaid Rates.

Doctorate degree in clinical or counseling psychology from an American Psychological Association (APA) accredited college or university AND current Georgia license to practice psychology AND One year of experience at the lower level Psychologist 1 (HCP140) or equivalent. Note: License may be temporary, provisional, or permanent.
